A THOUSAND EYES

From Morristown, TN

1. You guys hail from Morristown, TN. I’ve heard good things about the scene in that part of the state. What do you think of it?

(Alex)-Well I don't know how you’ve heard good things about it
there are only 4 bands here. Most of them have NO idea what they’re doing and don’t know anything about what they need to do. But, I guess it’s okay when other bands come here. There aren’t many places to play

2. How did you get the name A Thousand Eyes?

(Alex)-Well, I came up with it just out of nowhere. It really doesn’t have a story behind it. Except, I guess a pile of shit has a thousand eyes (laughter).

3. You guys recently recorded your five-song demo with Rob Thacker at NME studios. How was the studio experience and what did you think of NME?

(Alex)-It was awesome! Rob is a great guy and he knows what he’s doing. NME is great. I think everyone should go there to record.

4. There’s obviously an age difference in the band with Alex and Stephen being 14, Cody being 19, and Micah being 20. How does such a diverse group come together?

(Alex)-Well, it started off with my brother and I. We are the same age and we’re a lot more mature for it. We just all love music and wanted to make it and give something to the people. We really don’t even notice the age difference.

5. I saw on your Myspace page that your official website is under construction. When can the public expect the launch of the official site?

(Alex)-We have no idea. As of right now the site has stopped
being worked on. We really don’t have time for it.  But, when it is open there will be MANY pics, show videos, new songs, and a more detailed bio.

6. Have you played any shows out yet? If so, share some gig stories with us.

(Alex)-We have played quite a few shows. The last show we had was a disaster though. So much stuff went wrong. We were playing and Stephen’s cymbal fell, almost busting a hole in his tom. At the same time, my guitar hit Cody and got knocked out of tune horribly and the cord came out of my amp (laughter) but it was still a good show. We had a pit with about 40 to 50 people in it

7. Does Cody gargle with razor blades every morning to get that sound? If not, how do you discover that type of voice?

(Cody) -Yes, indeed. I gargle razor blades every morning for at least 45 seconds. Nah, but seriously, the first time I ever even tried to do these types of vocals was when I tried out for the band. It was crazy, dude. I started freestyling a song off the top of my head and gave it all I had. Before I knew it, I was the front man for A Thousand Eyes.

8. Are there plans to play the Nashville circuit in the future for A Thousand Eyes?

(Cody)-Oh definitely. In 2007, we are gonna be playing shows at the Muse and Rockettown. Then, we really start expanding.

9. Time for influences. What are yours musically and in life?

(Cody)-Musically our influences would be a mix of Unearth, Job for a Cowboy, Devildriver, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Suicide Silence etc. Our influences in life would be our personal demons that pushed us our entire lives. Plus, living in small towns has a huge effect on you because people are constantly on your ass about failure. So, you really get a lot of motivation.

10. Is it hard finding gigs because you guys are so young?

(Cody)-No, our age doesn't really have an effect on the gigs. If anything, it would be other bands that make it hard because they’re always hatin on us and it just so happens that they are the ones putting the shows together.

11. If you could open up a show for any band whom would it be, and why?

(Cody)-Well, each person in the band has their favorites so it would be kinda hard to just pick one. There are a lot of talented bands that we all enjoy.

12. Do you guys think Nashville has what it takes to launch a serious heavy metal scene?

(Cody)-Oh yeah, definitely. A lot of people instinctively think of country music when Nashville comes to mind, but they just don't understand how big the metal scene actually is.

13. With the success of 10 Years and The American Plague, do you think that the Knoxville/east Tennessee area is starting to rival Nashville’s rock scene?

(Cody)-It's retarded to say that there would be a "rival"[ry]. It's all metal music. All rock bands have the same ambitions and want to play their music for their fans. It's not a gang war. (Laughter)

14. Is there a common thread in your music or a theme that people can grab onto? If so, what is that theme?

(Cody)-Our music will always have so much room in it for diversity that it would be a wrong move to grab at anything in our music. We are always going to be a metal band. But, we are never going to be shoved into a single corner in metal. We LOVE making music. So, there will always be room for unexpected changes.

15. What band (local or national) do you think would be better served shoving guitar strings up their asses than trying to play music with them?

(Alex)- I think Never See The Day ( local ) would be better off shoving anything up there asses rather then trying to keep a good band. They are seriously horrible. They never change there set list. They never make new songs and they say the same stupid gimmick at every show. They’re a joke.

16. Last question, what can people expect from A Thousand Eyes in the future?

(Cody)-People won't know what to expect except that we will always be playing music just for them.

That'll do it for this time. Until next time, I'm out like Michael Richards at the Apollo Theatre!
