SONATA ARCTICAFOR THE SAKE OF REVENGENorth American Release Date: April 4th, 2006
I have had some much needed "down time" and I think I have some surprises for you readers. I am working diligently on some BIG features. So, in preparation I have asked for some help with this feature, two of the "biggest fans" of SONATA ARCTICA who were in attendance of this show. Formally introduced after the show and such huge fans, I recruited Michael and Xander. I am new to metal, so I feel it is best to let those who know the metal scene handle this show review. I've got a lot to learn. I don't know how to categorize much of the metal music I've been thrown into, but I know one thing, and that is to leave the writing to the ones who love these talented acts more than life, their fans. Welcome to America. SONATA ARCTICA and America, you’re going to be loving this band.
Ok, for once in my ramblings of a mad woman, I am going to keep this short. Read the show review, check out the band if you have not already, and tell me that this is your typical metal band? I Dare You! All I can say is, the boys are welcome to my den anytime. Finding the time to slow them down for an interview will be one of my biggest challenges of this year.Enjoy, and let's all hope that not only Finland keeps up the fine work of producing and supporting artists as talented as this!
These five boys from Finland took Hollywood by storm. Check them out: SONATA ARCTICASONATA ARCTICA IS:

By Xander Snyder and Michael YeghiayanThe first European culture explosion began on February 7, 1964 when four boys from Liverpool landed atJFK airport and changed the face of music forever. Now, 40 years later, the second wave of European rockhas already begun, except this time it is not from England - it is from Scandinavia. And who is leading this metal excursion into the heart of the United States? On the front lines is Finnish band Sonata Arctica, who are currently finishing their first headlining tour in America and stopped at the Key Club for their first appearance in Los Angeles, California. They certainly were worth the wait. While the numerous opening bands kept the crowd of metal fans as quiet as a metal fan can realistically be expected to be, everything changed when Tony Kakko and company got on stage and showed everyone how metal is played on the other side of the Atlantic. Opening with the fast paced "Misplaced," the first track from their latest album Reckoning Night, Sonata effectively set the pace for the rest of the show and left the crowd in hysterics.
Sonata also showed their versatility with a good mix of their slower songs, such as "Last Drop Falls" and"Tallulah." While the band was tight, with drummer Tommy Portimo keeping pace the entire night with the rapid double bass the SA employs often, and both the guitarist, Jani Liimatainen, and keyboards, HenrikKlingenberg, delivering blazing solos the entire time. Perhaps the most impressing aspect of the night wasthe power and clarity of singer Tony Kakko's voice. While quality of sound will often be weak at shows with any band, as a singer's voice wears away show after show on a tour, Kakko's voice actually sounded better than it did on the album. America better be ready, because Sonata Arctica has hit the US metal charts like a Scandinavian blizzard. And don't be surprised if these pioneers change the face of metal forever. If you don't already have a seat, now is the time to jump on the Finnish metal bandwagon.
