Do I really need to say anything about The Beatles?Didn't think so.

On Thursday May 25, Abbey Road LIVE! will take on a new task: a live
performance of the entire Magical Mystery Tour album. Magical Mystery
Tour, recorded at the height of the Beatles psychedelic period,
contains some of the most musically complicated Beatles material: I Am
The Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane… "What about the
horns, the strings, the flutes?" you may ask... Fear not, The band has
brought in extra musicians and a few other surprises to make it all
come to life and rock your Fab socks off.

Magical Mystery Tour LIVE! is a one time show that is not to be missed.
And rest assured, fans will also get a heaping dose of other Beatles
material.

======================================================================

NashvilleRock.net : Tell us about Abbey Road Live.

Abbey Road Live : Well, back in the 90's, we had an original band called Fuzzy Sprouts,
and on a whim, we decided to learn the Abbey Road album and perform it
live. The show we played was extremely well received, and people kept
asking us to do it again. Eventually, we added other Beatles tunes to
the repertoire, and "Abbey Road LIVE!" took on a life of its own.

We now have nearly 100 Beatles tunes in the repertoire, mostly from the
later years (1967-70).

NR : Have you ever met a Beatle?
ARL : No, but I saw Paul McCartney in Atlanta a few years ago, and it was one
of the best concerts I've ever witnessed.

NR : Tell us about your setlist.
ARL : Generally we play the Abbey Road album and a 2nd set of assorted
Beatles numbers, but at Exit In we will be performing the Magical
Mystery Tour album. We've brought extra musicians along to cover the
horns/strings/flutes etc.

NR : Do you take requests?
ARL : Most definitely. We aim to please. We particularly like requests for
songs we actually KNOW, but that doesn't necessarily stop us.

NR : Your website indicates that your shows are generally thematic by album.....
ARL : Yes, for the most part.  But in addition to Magical Mystery Tour and
Abbey Road, we have been looking at White Album, Sgt Pepper and Let It
Be for future shows.

NR : Does the band stay true to the recorded arrangement?
ARL : Yes and no... We definitely pay attention to detail. After all, the
Beatles were so very creative with details. But we also take some
liberties with some songs, especially ones whose endings fade out on
the original recording, but need a more concrete finsh when played
live. We extend certain tunes, and rework layered vocal harmonies so
they can be pulled off with a four piece band.

NR : What qualities does your band have that makes it authentic?
ARL : Depends what you mean by "authentic". We don't use the same vintage
equipment the Beatles used. We don't wear wigs. But we do try to be
true to the Beatles' musical stylings, and try to imagine what they
would have sounded like if they had played concerts in their later
years. I believe they definitely would have strayed a bit from the
recordings.

NR : Have you ever used or made a completely different arrangement?
ARL : We do have a few song arrangements that catch the Beatles diehards by
surprise.  But I would hate to spoil a good surprise, so that's
probably all I  should say.

NR : Do people ever sit-in with you?
ARL : Aside from our "Magical Mystery" horn players, that hasn't really
happened. I have a brother in Oregon who is an accomplised sitar
player, someday I hope we will get to add him into the mix.

NR : Do you have or use a hard press kit and if so how often do you update it?
ARL : All our band information is on the website
http://www.AbbeyRoadLive.com.

NR : Is there anything you can tell us about what you do (marketing wise)before, during,
or after a show to promote the show and the band?
ARL : A lot of word of mouth, posters, email list. The band photo is our best publicity, since
it so clearly alludes to Beatle-ness.

NR : When do you rehearse?
ARL : Whenever we have a show.

NR : How do you rehearse?
ARL : Sometimes with the whole band playing elecric instruments w/ drums,
other times just one guitar and four voices. Those scaled-down vocal
practices have been very useful in our attempts to tackle the more
complicated harmonies.

NR : Are you using any supplemental loops, keys,or vocals?
ARL : No loops, no computers. Hence the name Abbey Road LIVE!  If it can't be
pulled off by real musicians on a stage, then it is no longer LIVE.

NR : What's the magic trick to taking time off work (for shows) without losing your job?
ARL : Well, most of us are full time musicians in one form or another. We all
play in several bands, as well as do guitar repair, band management,
graphic design etc. Music related stuff. So I guess the trick to not
losing our job is to make music our job!

NR : When did you realize that there was a marketplace for what you do and what inspired you to do it?
ARL : Basically answered that above.

NR : What's next for Abbey Road Live?
ARL : This weekend we will be performing 3 days at "Abbey Road On The River"
in Louisville KY. It is the largest Beatles tribute festival in the
world.  More than 50 bands on 10 stages, about 20,000 attendees. It's a
crazy event, tons of fun. The freakiest of Beatles freaks come out of
the woodwork for this weekend. And the music is amazing: Beatles
tributes from all over the world, all eras of Beatles (and solo
careers), all night hotel lobby jam sessions. Totally Fab.
