I accidentally went to the Embers Fade CD release show.  This was not something I had planned to do.  I’d known about the show for weeks, I mean how could I not?  Nixon is on there everyday bumping the thread.  I had seen them briefly a few months ago and while they were pretty good, that’s usually not my kind of thing.  I usually go for the heavier stuff.  Either way, it was Friday and I needed something to do.  Started talking to my friend Mo online and hadn’t seen her since the whole Sevendust incident months ago.  She said she was going out that night with a friend and invited me to go.  They wanted to see Sans Seraph and weren’t sure who else was playing.  I mentioned Embers Fade but did not yet know who the third band was.  I figured what the hell?  May as well get out of the house, see some friends, and listen to a little music.  I’d only seen Sans Seraph once also and it was ages ago.

We all live on the North side of town so we decided we’d just meet in the middle and ride down to the Gibson together.  My last trip to the Gibson was in July to see Vahalla.  While the show that night was excellent, I ended up losing my wallet and breaking my shoe.  I’m always having some kind of shoe issue aren’t I?  Needless to say I was hoping for a more pleasant Gibson experience.  When we arrived we did the usual complaining about how half the parking lot is always blocked off and we had to walk way too far.  Once inside I remember how proud the Gibson is of their ticket prices.  Sure, seven dollars doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you’re used to paying five or nothing at all I was a bit surprised.  Hell, that extra two dollars spent at the door kept me from buying an extra beer.  Isn’t beer the real reason we’re there anyway?  No?  Well, nevermind.  Finally inside, we had to find a table.  I hadn’t seen the Gibson this full since the Vahalla reunion months back.  Apparently, Embers Fade have quite the following!  Luckily, it didn’t take too long to find a seat.  There were kids everywhere.  Little kids!  Lots of five year olds running around this place.

Sans Seraph took the stage and I was impressed.  I had only seen them briefly before so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  They were really good!  I’ll likely go see them again.  Next up was Embers Fade.  I’ll admit that during the set I wasn’t really paying attention.  I know. I’m awful at this.  In my defense, the fact that I was there was an accident and I had no plans to write anything.  Me and the two girls I was with were standing over to the side talking to Kenny from Sans Seraph about possibly attending the after party which is why we were distracted in the first place.  Then I heard it.  “Bye Bye Bye.”  Wow.  I turned to them and said, “Oh my God!  Is that ‘N Sync?”  Yes, it was.  We stood there in awe while they covered this song.  We were hoping they’d do the wave and, oh yes they did!  That moment right there made the whole night.  Afterwards, they said they were going to do and old song.  We were hoping for New Kids on the Block and started doing the dance to “The Right Stuff”.  No such luck.  Maybe next time!  I’d like to put in that request now.  Overall the show was good and I ended up having a really good time despite the fact that we skipped the party.  We decided not to drive out near the airport at midnight.  Missed the Everafters so I can’t comment on that.  Both Sans Seraph and Embers Fade were really good.  I just may accidentally attend one of their shows again.  I believe they’re playing Friday at 12th and Porter, but I have a previous engagement.
