Sara E. Walker
Sara: Are you from Nashville?
Denitia: I grew up right outside of Houston, Texas
Sara: How long have you been here?
Denitia: Going on 6 years
Sara: What is the first music memory that made the biggest impact on you?
Denitia: Listening to Smokey Robinson and Al Green with my mom while riding in a car
Sara: What instrument did you start playing first?
Denitia: Piano.
Sara: How many instruments do you play?
Denitia: Currently and especially, guitar.
Sara: When did you get your first guitar?
Denitia: When I was about 6 or 7, a lady from our church gave us an old Ventura acoustic. Of course, no one in my house played, so I gave it a try: I remember trying to play along with Garth Brooks “Friends in Low Places” with a penny. That guitar was so out of tune, but it was fun to me.
Sara: What are ya jammin’ to right now in the car or at home?
Denitia: I was just listening to The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s “Show Me Your Bones”
Sara: Do you have an album out?
Denitia: Nope. I’ve got a demo floating around and I made a self-titled EP last summer, but it’s out of print now
Sara: Where did you record?
Denitia: I made both recordings with a good friend, Dave Arnold of quiet, KY. We made
it mostly upstairs in my apartment.
Sara: Who played on it?
Denitia: Myself, Dave Arnold, and my band mates at the time, Reed Chamber
and Matt Stone
Sara: Are those guys your regular band?
Denitia: Not so much
Sara: Are you planning on releasing an album?
Denitia: If you proclaim it, it shall happen. AKA I have no definite plans to record, but my feelers are out there.
Sara: Do you write your own material?
Denitia: yes
Sara: From where does your inspiration come?
Denitia: mmm…whatever inspires me usually. But lately, I’ve been sparked by how I perceive other people’s experience. And I’m also intrigued by the lifestyle gap between people in the media, especially entertainers, and the vastly outnumbering regular people. Somehow, television, radio, etc. seems to dictate how we live instead of documenting it. Its not a new idea or anything but I’m just interested in the social psychology of it….Been writing about that
Sara: Do you write alone or with others?
Denitia: Recently, I have been enjoying some co-writing lately. I find it stimulating for both parties
Sara: Where do you usually play?
Denitia: Anywhere they let me
Sara: Where can we see you next?
Denitia: Saturday May 13 at Edgehill Studios Café at 8.
Friday May 19 at ScoJo’s Café at 7.
Saturday May 27 at Bongo Java for the Brain Injury Relief Fund.
