JB’s Feminine Hyjinx

“Please allow me to introduce myself…”

Picture this, if you can…3 years old, standing on an old washtub (my stage) loudly singing “Rocky Top”, while keeping beat with a wooden spoon and metal bucket.  My audience is a room full of teenagers that has come to celebrate one of my sister’s birthdays, and I steal the show!  What can I say, even one of my first memories concludes I was a natural born entertainer!  No, really, I knew from a very early age that music was my first love and that’s still true today.

Growing up, I was exposed to many different genres of music.  That gave the opportunity to appreciate any and all music; while at the same time, choosing my fave and establishing my own identity.  I first grasp the punk movement and ran with the anarchy fueled hostility.  Next, I tried to find the beat with the girl group thing.  Then I discovered metal…ahhhh…metal, my passion, thick heavy riffs, pounding double bass, and mass quantities of drop d.  I need it like chocolate!

I had found my destination, now I only needed to find my way.  Since music was a pleasure type thing, I had to find that day job to support my habit.  I decided upon cosmetology…another creative outlet, quick to earn a degree, and I am great at it.  All systems go!

Fast forward through the years of drama, growth, and pain…all the bittersweet inspirations that drive all artists.  Sparing you readers my stories of trials and tribulations; all you need to know is I am still here making that mark, or stain, in this world I love.  Although I still sing occasionally, I decided to focus more on the behind the scenes of the business.  I have dabbled in promotions, booking, and producing; I have also written a few songs for other aspiring singers.  Now, I am adding freelance journalism to my resume.

It took me a little later in life to realize where my path lies; and I may  approach more crossroads, but I honestly feel I have found my calling.  I’ll let you, the readers, decide that…I welcome all feedback!  Now, turn down the lights and let the show begin…and don’t forget…support your local music scene!!!
