It’s so exhilarating yet frustrating when one decides to form a band.  Exhilarating in the sense that it’s you behind the wheel driving this force down the path you choose; yet frustrating because the road is not always smooth and straight.  There are back seat drivers trying to tell you to speed up or slow down, sometimes you have to take pit stops to rearrange the cargo, and no matter how hard you try to avoid them…there are going to be wrecks along the way!  Some lost souls give up, turn around and head home; while the strong ones buckle up, set the cruise, and ride on.  It is those who know when you reach that destination, it is the most gratifying feeling in the world!  Have I lost anyone?  I certainly hope not because this really isn’t about driving; it’s about making a passionate dream come true.  For those who can relate, you understand the intense emotions felt when you package this dream in plastic and release it upon the world.  You’re so proud of what you have created but you want the world to love it more; so, that is when you invite 300 of your closest friends, book the coolest venue, and have a killer show with 3 sick bands!  Just ask Caprice!

Saturday, July 28, marked an epic moment for Caprice.  All of their creative blood, sweat, and tears from the last 11 months were ready for circulation.  One of my most anticipated albums of the year was unleashed; and in true rock star fashion, the party was kickin’ Caprice style.  The Exit/In was full of “rocker” chicks, fellow musicians, and music enthusiasts all ready to celebrate the coming of Caprice’s self-titled album.

Caprice knew how to get the party started by inviting Return To Self to open the show.  As soon as Russell, 102.9 Buzzster, introduced them, the guys claim their domain on the stage and proceed to give one of the best kick ass performances!  RTS recently returned from Orlando where they recorded their next album, which is “in record management’s hands,” quoted Golden when I tried to get him to leak me some info on the future release.  Hey, at least I tried?!

The guys did preview some of the new material while mixing in a few crowd pleasers, like “Stop Breathing” and “Can Not Compare”.  I have listened to their cd many many times and I have reached a conclusion…nothing compares to their live shows!  I love when a front man feels the lyrics he’s singing; and even when Brett screams, he sounds so sincere.  I don’t mean to dismiss any of the other members, he couldn’t do it without them; but to sing the words is one thing, and to present the song is another.  That is something that will always bring me back to a RTS show!  Point is…they got the crowd roaring and ready for some more rock.

Enter the host of the evening, Caprice.  With the stage front lined with girls and new guitarist Chad Jones in tow, the guys break into their Saturday-night-parking-at-the-point style rock.  I hadn’t seen these guys in a while and it seems their stage show has gotten a lot tighter.  This may have been Chad’s first show with Caprice; but you couldn’t tell, he fit right in never missing a lick!

Caprice:  Chad Jones, Daniel Brasuell, Tony Higbee, Cody Higbee

Caprice debuted almost the entire album during their set and even gave away there is a hidden track.  Of course I was glad to hear a couple of my fave songs, “Karma” and “Loser of the World”, made the album.  Along with those, there are some other great high energy packed rock–n-roll and maybe a couple of monster ballads.

The guys really seemed to be having fun on stage while giving their all in this special performance.  They really did a great job representing the album and bringing it to the people.  The crowd really supported them and hopefully bought tons of merchandise.  I had fun seeing Caprice again and was glad to be a part of the cd release party.  Awesome show!  Good party, guys!

The Brothers Higbee

I’m sure my readers get tired of my praising rants about Deadsun; I can’t help it, I love those guys!  What so great about them, you ask?! Well, let me tell you…first, the music is solid and the lyrics are universal; second, killer musicianship and excellent front man stage persona; third, good crowd communication skills on and off stage.  I could go on and on but I’ll get to my point…the thing I love about Deadsun is when I think I’ve seen their best, the next time I see them they take it to a whole new level and blow my mind all over again!  In my opinion, if I can see a band as many times as I have Deadsun and I’m still getting blown away then that’s a righteous band!  And the guys didn’t disappoint this night.  Todd repeatedly thanked the supporters, Adam kept the crowd screaming from behind the kit, Rex shredded some serious strings, and Dee ended the night with a stage dive!  Deadsun was the perfect choice to wrap up this party.

Caprice’s cd release party was a huge success.  I had a lot of fun rockin’ out to some old friends and making some new ones.  Until next time, Nashville, support your local music scene and rock on!
